We had super Alden, a cute little bumblebee and princess Lucy.
I sewed Alden some shorts (isn't it strange how Super Hero's always wear their underwear on the outside?), a mask thing and his cape from last year's Christmas.
Lucy was wearing the crown and dress from her birthday.
And Eli is wearing a little hand-me down costume.
Tradition #1: Did you notice what they are holding? When I was a kid we ALWAYS used our pillowcases for trick or treating. So I decided to take that tradition (or maybe it was just easier for my mom?!?) and make it our own. So I sewed them some Halloween pillow cases. For a few days leading up to Halloween they can use them on their pillows and then take them off for the Trick or Treating :) I was given a whole whack of Halloweeny fabric a couple years ago and never got around to making them. (I'm not really a Halloween quilt kind a girl) Finally did it this past week. It was SUPER easy! Like if you can sew a straight line you could do it. Perhaps I'll make a tutorial for pillow cases.
Tradition #2: Donuts
My mom often handed out donuts on Halloween. I always thought it was interesting as she HATES Halloween. But she often made homemade donuts. (She had donuts days where she'd make them for the Elementary - JR high school we went to too). She is done with all that. I'm made them many times but haven't done it on Halloween to hand out. So I did it this year (but only gave them out to people we knew!) I've been asked to share the recipe so I will this week!

you have no idea how bad i want to eat one of those donuts right now. yumm. Pillowcases look like a hit. For now a small bucket that fills up quickly works for me.
We used pillowcases too!! Yeah I totally want to make one of those someday.
I totally remember your mom's donuts on halloween. And the yummy bread wreaths at Christmas. Man, I really need one of those donuts right now!
I miss your moms donuts I so glad you carry on
What a cute little trio of trick
-or-treaters you have. Love their Halloween bags. And those donuts ... they look divine!! Will be watching for the recipe. ;)
The pillowcases are really cute! I usually just let the kids take a small bucket that fills up quickly - but this year they graduated to a communal pillowcase which they dumped their buckets into when they got full. I did run into a dilemna though - I didn't want them using my good linen, so I found one at the bottom of the linen closet that has Santas riding motorcycles on it. Worked, but I like the idea of Halloweeny ones more!
The donuts look delish! I always liked it when people handed out something different than the typical candies. I grew up in a super small town, and every halloween there were 3 houses in particular where we knew exactly what we were getting: a candied apple, a popcorn ball, and an individually wrapped wiener (the last item was given out by the family that owned the local butcher-shop) - I will never forget those houses. Not really something you can do outside of a small town where everybody knows you though!
love those pillowcases! i noticed them right away!

As for those donuts...do you have any left? Those just happen to be on my list of things I crave right now. If not, then I'll settle for the recipe and make my own :-)
