Monday Seven

1. Thankful my little brother, his wife and kiddos could come and stay with us for the weekend. We don't have a big place, but they came anyway. And we had fun. Alden was in cousin heaven. He got his sleep over in the bottom bunk. (Lucy would have liked a girl to come as they have 3 little boys). We went to the zoo, played cards at night, took them to church with us. It was good.

2. Thankful we could have an almost the entire family get together at my brother Sean's house on Sunday. It was nice to get together and still be able to drive home the same day to our house. We got to celebrate Sonya's 4th birthday too which was great.

3. Thankful my kiddos are no longer sick. I would way rather it was me holding on to the sickness than them. (although I would rather even more that none of us would...)

4. Thankful for good food. In the past few weeks I've really enjoyed some recipes we've tried out.
Like this one.
And this one.
And this for supper.
(All of which I would TOTALLY recommend!!!)
Regan told me at the beginning of the week that I had to wait to cook because he couldn't keep up with all the stuff I was making. So I made lots of fun stuff over the weekend. And I enjoyed it. :)

5. Thankful that my sister in law Susie is coming to stay for a few days tomorrow. I love having people visit. :) Another reason to bake something yummy tomorrow.

6. Thankful that we have two vehicles now. It took a while to convince Regan that he needed to get one for Clerkship. But he came around and I am sooooo glad that we have it. And so is he.

7. Thankful for my momma. Always.

we are ALIVE!!!!

We've been sick around here.
We've wiped enough boogies for a life time...
but that part isn't over.
Enough coughing and throwing up too.
(Which is totally awesome when you're pregnant!)

A few things to share:
1. Alden finally bought something with the money he has been saving. I had to go to London Drugs and took him with me and let him pick something out of the toy isle. At first nothing was looking good to him, so I tried to convince him to wait and we could go to another store. But NO. He wanted something then. So he picked out this cool spiderman car. And was mighty pleased that he bought it himself. :)

2. On Saturday we went to a community Easter Egg hunt. (The kids were both tired, we were late.. so no pictures from it...) But when pulling up to our house, we saw our neighbor was moving out. And had everything for sale. Including beds. So we made a decision and bought Alden his dream. Bunk Beds. He LOVES them. And has slept a night in each bed. Just to try them out. And the first night after Regan set them all up, Alden says to Regan "Dad will you sleep in my room tonight?" Regan "No, I like to sleep with mom." Alden: "But who's going to sleep in the bottom bunk?"
So he has made it his animal bed. Every stuffed animal we own sleeps in the bottom bunk. :)

3. Because Alden got the bunk beds, we moved Lucy into a big girl bed. Really didn't talk it over with her. Just did it. And she likes it. It's good I had her blanket done, as I think that is what sealed the deal for her.

4. For fun on Friday night we had a little get together family style with our good friends the Chutes. We decorated eggs. Ate supper together. Let the kiddos watch a movie and play. And the adults visited. It was great.

5. Since Lucy got sick she has started needing naps again. Since she has her big girl bed now, if she doesn't get what she wants she goes upstairs crying, closes her door and climbs into bed and goes to sleep. Yesterday I suggested that she should go up for a nap and Alden and I went upstairs. So instead she went behind the couch and went to sleep. She slept here for 2 hours.

6. Even when she isn't feeling well, she likes to dress up.

A Princess

Thanks for all the kind words on the quilt. I appreciate them!
I got the pattern at the quilt show I went to with my momma last summer.
It was actually for a baby quilt.
I changed it to suit my taste.
The pattern suggested white background fabric and black flower petals and only one middle circle.
All of which were supposed to be appliqued on top.
I wanted the ends to fray. So I left them open.
And the stitching and white borders I added myself. They weren't on the pattern either.

A few people have asked if they can copy it.
Of course!

After I quilt the living room quilt, I'll post a picture of that too!
It has blue toile on it. Which I love.

We have been so sick around here.
Poor little Lucy had one rough day yesterday.
And so did I.

But even though she was sick... she wore around a princess outfit.
This one is from the day before....
She came downstairs and asked me if I would take her picture.
And then asked to see it.
Isn't she a doll?

In the Craft Room: Lucy's Quilt

Well have you missed me??
I've been busy.
I decided to up and leave Sunday after church and drive to my momma's house.
Me and the kiddos.
It was a rash sudden decision.
I even surprised mom and dad. :)
And it was great.
(Not the best sleeping arrangements with all of us in one room. One kid snoring and the other talking to himself.....)
I quilted my little heart out.

How could I not being in a room like this?

She has it set up like a shop. With her fabric on bolts on shelves. And cute baskets holding fat quarters. It really is a great place to work.
So my momma worked on her school work (she's doing her master's), my kids played with cousins and played with grandma's toys. And I quilted. :)
I finished Lucy's big girl quilt. I'm quite happy how it turned out.
I also did a baby quilt top (with some real 30's fabrics someone gave me) and both sides of a reversible quilt for my living room. I have that one pinned now and ready to quilt it.

Here is Lucy's quilt. (Which she loves... and that makes me like it extra!)
(It was kinda hard to take a picture without anyone to hold it up for me....)This is a close up of the stitching in the middle of all the flowers.

So you can see the backing and binding.

My momma feels about quilting like I do about scrapbooking.
Scrapbooking is my thing.
Quilting is my momma's thing.
I like to quilt too.
And my momma likes to scrapbook too.
I love that we can both enjoy what the other person enjoys too.
And when I get quilting it gets my creative juices going so I scrapped a pile of pages when I came home too. So besides scrapbooking.

Since we've been home, I have finished up Sarah and Dale's photos.....

And working on Sherri and John's wedding photos...

What have you been up to??

totally random points

Feeling a bit ho-hum tonight. Not really any reason.

Regan got to be home ALL DAY, which lately, is quite an exciting thing!
He has to work tomorrow, so here is the first day of my going to church without him.
We'll see how it goes.
If I didn't mention it before, Regan is now in his last year in Medical School. CRAZY.
But now he is a clerk. So he is like a resident except he can't give drugs, or orders.
So he works shifts at different hospitals and different towns for a year.
He has already been gone a few nights.
His first two weeks are in Canmore. Doing rural medicine. It isn't that bad yet.
There will be a few crappy weeks.... like when he is gone to Claresholm for 6 weeks...... that is in the middle of May to middle of April. And then a month after our third kiddo is born he will be gone for 6 weeks to Medicine Hat. We'll see how we survive that one!
Really so far, I am just taking every advantage of when he is home.
On Wednesday he got home around noon (after not being home the day and night before) so we went to the zoo. It was good.

I have some new photos on my photo blog.
Of cousins Sarah and Dale.
And I have a wedding to edit and post.

I scrapbooked a little today. And it was fun. :) Used some glitter and some cool tacky tape that my friend Heather introduced me too in her class.

It rules for using glitter and micro beads. I'd show you but I am actually too lazy to go downstairs, get the layout, come BACK upstairs, scan layout 2 times, stitch layout in photoshop and post. Surely you understand. :) Perhaps tomorrow.
I mean I'll need something to keep me occupied since Regan won't be home. :)

I went to the dr this week. And I don't know if it is cause this is my third pregnancy, but I really find those drs appointments a waste of time. Getting both kiddos into the car and driving all the way to the office, then waiting in the waiting room to then see the dr for 2 minutes. I really don't have any questions. (And if I do I just ask Regan or call my Father in law....) Maybe that is too negative of a view??? On a high note, I gained ten pounds this last month.... or should I say LOW note. Looks like I might end up being fat pregnant like I was with Alden instead of cute pregnant like I was with Lucy. Might have something to do with my dreaming of chocolate.... seriously can't think about anything else. Current favorite is rolos...... mmmmmmmmmm.....

You know what I hate about TV lately. That almost every show has to do with death. There is a new show about a serial killer who works for the police. Can't they come up a with a good comedy anymore?? A good classic show about not much at all?? I've had enough of these creepy death killer shows. If only I could run a tv station..... hmmmmm

Last night we watched the movie Martian Child. You can see the trailer here. It is cute. A little slow. But I was in the mood for that. I am always amazed that John Cusack can play the exact same character in every movie and I always love him. :)

We spring cleaned today. Got rid of a LOT of paper and old magazines... now our recycling baskets are nice and full. Doesn't a nice clean house just make you so happy. :)

And Thomas is coming to town again.
I want to take the kids again. Alden is already excited.... but I want someone to go with us. Regan will be in Canmore. And taking both kids and walking around all day at Heritage Park while pregnant isn't totally appealing.... anyone wanna join us???

I'm off to find some rolos now......

Princess outfit of the day

Lucy's outfit for yesterday. (And the day before....)
If you didn't notice she's really into this stuff....

Last week I had to stop at the scrapbook store to pick up a couple things for the scrapbooking convention, and both kiddos were with me. Well, Lucy found a little chipboard package of Disney Princess'. And she was NOT going to let us leave them at the store.
If you don't know, I am NOT a fan of character things......
But I decided to get those little chipboard pieces (....it was totally a long day and she had already had a few fits and I just didn't feel like taking them away and starting another...... bad parenting I KNOW)
Anyway, I brought them home and made them into little scrapbooked frames and hung them up in her room above her bed. (She asked for them there so she could see "her princess' ".
After I hung them up she asked to get into her bed and then jumped looking at "her princess' " for like 20 minutes. So I guess they were worth it. And they turned out kinda cute. Despite the characterness of them.

Funny things

First Alden.

Last week, he came up to me and said "Mom, I need a job. I need to make money."
I said "oh really, what do you need money for?"
So he whips out his Thomas the Train catalogue and shows me the things he needs money to buy.
I give him three options of things he could do to make money.
He could clean the whole toy room himself, vaccuum out the van (with our little hand vac) or he could tidy up the living room.
"No mom, how about I clean up this puzzle and you can pay me?"
"Um, you took the puzzle out and that isn't enough work to make money from."
"But all those jobs will take too long."
So he took his catalogue back upstairs to decide what he is going to buy when he gets his money.

Comes back down a couple hours later and tells me the same thing again.
Still disagrees with my jobs.
Goes back upstairs.

Comes back down and we finally agree on him cleaning out the fridge.
He did it (with help from mom) and so he made some money.
Although it wasn't NEAR enough to buy some expensive Thomas toys!!

Second Lucy.

This little girl has recently decided that dressing up is the best thing. A daily thing.
Almost every day she is wearing some kind of costume part.
A crown.
Wings.
This day she wore this outfit to the store.
Yesterday she wore a crown to church.
It's cute.

Scrapbooking

So the new March kit is up at Scraptivity.
And it's a good one!!!
I had lots of fun with it.
Here are some of my March creations.

And then here are the class proijects from the Okotoks Scrapbook Convention from this past Saturday.
It all went good, despite a few hiccups in the middle of the road.
A mini album..
A 12x12 layout called Journey...

A 12x12 layout called Bubbles....
And lastly another 12x12 layout called Cherish Family time.

Lots of thanks to Scraptivity and Tin Box for supporting this great cause.
We raised a lot of money for the Rowan House Women's Shelter.
A weekend of women helping women.
I had lots of fun teaching the fabulous participants.
They were great!

Now I have lots of free time. :)
I can get back to my regularly scheduled life.
Gotta edit some photos and play with my kiddos.
