Something I'll be doing in this new year is sharing a spiritual thought on Sundays. This week I am teaching on faith. So a quote I found that I really liked.
The Prophet Joseph Smith gave the following definition of faith: "Had it not been for the principle of faith the worlds would have never been framed, neither would man have been formed of the dust. It is the principle by which Jehovah works, and through which he exercises power over all temporal as well as eternal things. Take this principle or attribute, for it is an attribute from the Deity, and he would cease to exist. Faith,
is the first great governing principle which has power, dominion, and authority over all things; by it they exist, by it they are upheld, by it they are changed; or by it they remain; agreeable to the will of God. Without it there is no power, and without power there could be no creation or existence." Lectures on Faith, No. 1, p9-10.
Some scriptures concerning Faith:
Matthew 8:5–10 (healing by faith)
Matthew 17:20 (nothing is impossible through faith)
Mark 9:23 (all things are possible through faith)
Luke 8:43–48 (healing by faith)
John 20:24–29 (blessed are they who believe)
Romans 10:13–17 (to have faith, we must hear the word of God)
2 Corinthians 5:6–7 (we walk by faith)
1 Nephi 3 (the faith of Nephi)
1 Nephi 4 (power through faith)
Alma 32:17–43 (Alma’s discourse on faith)
Moroni 7:33–39 (faith is necessary for miracles)
Happy Sabbath to you!
