Quick post to answer Michelle's question:

Yep. You can roll them in whatever you want, so they are just coated in the cherries or walnuts (roll the logs you make in whatever you want to coat them with) or you can add them after the dough is all made. Either way works.

Well I made them. They were a bit harder to make then I thought - they broke apart a bit while trying to slice them.
They didn't look the greatest but they sure do taste good!
