Snapshots from Wateron

Whenever Regan had his day off we like to do something fun as a family. This week we wanted to go over Logan's pass. But then we realized that our passports just expired. So instead we went to Waterton. We go there a lot. We love it! Here are snapshots from our day.

This GREAT recipe is from my friend Lonnie. I told her to email me a picture and this is what she sent me.... her kids view of her....

:) Lonnie is a crack up. And SUCH A good cook! She is in Dinner Club with me.

your favorite pie crust
1 cup sugar
1 cup sourcream
1/3 cup flour
1/2 cup flour
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup brown sugar

1.Ppreheat oven to 425 degrees. Roll out your pastry and put it in your pan. Fill with your rhubarb. Mix together the sour cream, sugar and 1/3 cup flour and pour over top the rhubarb.
2. Cut together the 1/2 cup flour, butter and brown sugar and sprinkle over top the pie.
3. Bake on bottom shelf for 10 minutes at 425 and then reduce heat to 350 and bake for 40-50 minutes until rhubarb is cooked and the top is brown.
Enjoy!

Spiritual Sundays

“To find real happiness, we must seek for it in a focus outside ourselves,” President Thomas S. Monson teaches. “No one has learned the meaning of living until he has surrendered his ego to the service of his fellow man. Service to others is akin to duty, the fulfillment of which brings true joy.”

“We do not live alone—in our city, our nation, or our world,” President Monson says. “There is no dividing line between our prosperity and our neighbor’s wretchedness. ‘Love thy neighbor’ is more than a divine truth. It is a pattern for perfection. This truth inspires the familiar charge, ‘Go forth to serve.’ Try as some of us may, we cannot escape the influence our lives have upon the lives of others. Ours is the opportunity to build, to lift, to inspire, and indeed to lead. The New Testament teaches that it is impossible to take a right attitude toward Christ without taking an unselfish attitude toward men.”

President Monson encourages Latter-day Saints to “reach outward. … Membership in the Church calls forth a determination to serve. A position of responsibility may not be of recognized importance, nor may the reward be broadly known. Service, to be acceptable to the Savior, must come from willing minds, ready hands, and pledged hearts.

And President Monson encourages us to trust in the Lord as we serve. “Occasionally discouragement may darken our pathway; frustration may be a constant companion. In our ears there may sound the sophistry of Satan as he whispers, ‘you cannot save the world; your small efforts are meaningless. You haven’t time to be concerned for others.’

“Trusting in the Lord, let us turn our heads from such falsehoods and make certain our feet are firmly planted in the path of service and our hearts and souls dedicated to follow the example of the Lord. In moments when the light of resolution dims and when the heart grows faint, we can take comfort from His promise: ‘Be not weary in well-doing. … Out of small things proceedeth that which is great’” (Doctrine and Covenants 64:33).

Month 7 Week 3: Season

Canada Day!! For this year our Canada Day was filled with sickness. Regan was on call and I was at home for part of it with sick kids. (Until family had pity on us and invited us over anyways) So the only shot of Canada day was this of the balloon launch before we all ran the race.

Eli's 4th Birthday: Super Heros

Eli had his fourth birthday a couple weeks ago and I thought I'd share what we did. It really was a pretty relaxed party. At our house the kids are allowed to invite as many kids as how old they are turning. So Eli was supposed to invite 4. And him being the wheeler and dealer that he is, he worked that into more kids. First he told me who he wanted. Then he kept saying that he wanted the moms to come too. Then he added in the other siblings. And then the morning of he was like WAIT why isn't Talan here (he lives across the street) so he ran over there and invited him to come over too. (And his mom ran to the store and bought Elie a present. So really Eli worked it to have way more than the allotted 4 kids to his fourth birthday. And really, that is soooooo Eli.

I made all the kids "capes" in the cutting of the men's t-shirts. It worked great and I made 12 in about 10 minutes. Perfect :)
Flying to the course

Anyways, on to the picture overload. We made an obstacle course in the backyard. Really I think I do one at every boys party. :) SO this one I tried to think of super heroes and the things they "do".

First they ran through "flames" and weren't supposed to let the flames touch them. (the blowing wind sure helped them out on that!)
Going thru "fire'

Then the had to climb through two different spider webs that Alden made. (It sure was good they had started our fence but just had the poles so we could use them!)
DSC_5961
climbing the "spider web"

Then run to the trampoline to jump from one side to the other without hitting the bombs (balls) that were on it.
DSC_5966

Then on to jump over the buildings

Talan jumping

Then on to Target practice.
Target practice

Then a "super break".
a little super break

And they could do the course over and over. Which they did.
"climbing" buildings
Jumped those buildings easily!!
Super Eli

For the food we did Eli's very favorite thing in the world. Cereal. I bought a bunch of sweetened cereals that I never let them eat. And had milk and juice boxes.
Food table
I cut a bunch of super hero phrases out on my Silhouette Cameo and made the "city" backdrop out of poster board from the dollar store.
The crew eating

A little shot of the stamped spoons I got for the cereal... kinda fun :)
stamped Spoons

Eli having a cupcake. I should say blowing out the candles. Cause all he does is lick the icing. Four for four he has never eaten his birthday cake. So this year I got smart and made some yummy banana cupcakes with Vanilla Bean Cream Cheese Icing. It was totally cause I knew moms would be eating them too. And since Eli never eats his cake, we might as well enjoy them :) HA
Birthday boyDSC_6045

It was lots of fun and really nice that all the mom's were around to hang out too :) And the best thing is that almost everything we did I just gathered it all and threw it away. Really really fast clean up :)

10 on Tuesday

1. A few of you caught my list last week. And my big news on it.

2. Yep 5 kids. CRAZY. Can't even believe it still. Every day I am like wow. I thought 4 was our end. But I guess God had other plans. It has always taken us a long time to have a baby. So getting pregnant when we weren't planning is still a shock. Apparently this little person NEEDS to come to our family.

3. And yep, just like all the past 4 I feel terrible. And puke a lot. This time it seems to be night time that is a real struggle for me. Lots of throwing up at night. Nothing like waking up at 2 am to puke :) HAHAHA

4. OR scaring the neighborhood kids by having them walk into the bathroom when you are puking while trying to hold your 10 month old away from the toilet... :) Good times. Good times.

5. We told the kids one night last week and the next morning Lucy told some man that stopped by our house that she didn't even know. To say she is excited is an understatement. (of the century.) She's already praying it's a girl.

6. I've also been told by a few people already that I am looking well.... plump. (not in those exact words)... Which is hard on the ol' self esteem. I still haven't lost baby weight from Oliver and now I am going to put on more. Discouraging!

7. Most days when I am trying to put Oliver to sleep I am overwhelmed with the fact that I HAVE A baby. And there is another one coming. Wow.

8. And I am amazed that my mother had all of us (6 plus 1 adopted) in a short amount of time. She must have been soooooo sleep deprived. (And a little nutty).

9. Since find out I was pregnant I have felt a shift in my focus. Or more like a tightening of my focus. Other things that try to crowd in that I want to do have fell to the wayside. And I feel much more focused on my children and my family. I always felt like I was choosing motherhood in a lot of ways, but now motherhood is choosing me even more.

10. And if you are trying to do the math.... Oliver and the new baby will be 16 months apart. All our other kids are 3 years.... and then 16 months. Woah. Many times Regan and I have said to each other.. I can't believe some people have their kids this close together on PURPOSE! CRAZY! :)

Spiritual Sundays

I have always loved the parable of the widows mite in the scriptures.

" And Jesus sat over against the treasury, and beheld how the people cast money into the treasury: and many that were rich cast in much.
And there came a certain poor widow, and she threw in two mites, which make a farthing
And he called unto him his disciples, and saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That this poor widow hath cast more in, than all they which have cast into the treasury:
For all they did cast in of their abundance; but she of her want did ccast in all that she had, even all her living." - Mark 12:41-44

"The Lord often teaches using extreme circumstances to illustrate a principle. The story of the widow of Zarephath is an example of extreme poverty used to teach the doctrine that mercy cannot rob sacrifice any more than it can rob justice. In fact, the truer measure of sacrifice isn’t so much what one gives to sacrifice as what one sacrifices to give (see Mark 12:43). Faith isn’t tested so much when the cupboard is full as when it is bare. In these defining moments, the crisis doesn’t create one’s character—it reveals it. The crisis is the test." - Elder Lynn G. Robbins

Elaine Cannon reminds us of an important way these blessings come and how we can make the most of them. “When we are pushed, stung, defeated, embarrassed, hurt, rejected, tormented, forgotten—when we are in agony of spirit crying out ‘why me?’ we are in a position to learn something” (Adversity, 47).

Elder Howard W. Hunter explained the principle in a general conference address many years ago:“We came to mortal life to encounter resistance. It was part of the plan for our eternal progress. Without temptation, sickness, pain, and sorrow, there could be no goodness, virtue, appreciation for well-being, or joy” (“God Will Have a Tried People,” Ensign, May 1980, 25).

One of my all time favorite quotes.
President Ezra Taft Benson explained: “It is not on the pinnacle of success and ease where men and women grow most. It is often down in the valley of heartache and disappointment and reverses where men and women grow into strong characters” (in Conference Report, Stockholm Sweden Area Conference, 1974, 70).

10 on Tuesday

1. We got a new computer 4 days ago and finally now it is up and running. Transferring all the files and all that was messing me up. But I got it all done now!

2. We started swimming lessons this week for the oldest three plus basketball camp for Alden. (He sneaks out of bb camp to run across the street to do swimming and then runs back.

3. Last night before bed Alden was in tears cause he feels like he doesn't have any free time. Which is funny since he spend the entire afternoon (from 1pm on) just playing.

4. I love Goat cheese. A LOT.

5. It makes me annoyed when people are nosy. Is that weird? If I want to share it with you I will.

6. Fresh fruit is in season. And that makes my tummy happy.

7. All of my kids were sick last week. Chicken pox (YES we vaccinate our kids... I am married to a doctor!!) and the flu. It was just rotating from kid to kid. We missed the parade and slept instead.

8. Our backyard is almost completely fenced in. That makes me HAPPY!

9. I wish our yard had some trees. Soon, perhaps.

10. I have been looking for some patio furniture and I finally found ONE i like and it is a little too pricey. If I can't find anything else I might bite the bullet. But hopefully I'll find a cheaper cute one.

Month 7 Week 1: Group Shot

For the first week of each month we'll focus on Relationships.

Not last Monday but the one before we climbed bears hump as a family. Every time we do a hike it amazes me how much Eli loves doing it. (On the way up at least.)

Here we are at the top.
And yep Oliver is wearing Christmas pjs :) HA!
And I don't particularly like this shot of me. I look like I have 8 chins. But oh well. It was the best one of everyone else. Alden has entered that 10 year old boy stage where he thinks picking his nose in family pictures is hilarious. So let's just say this is the best one and you can guess why. :)
